What do you do when a whole town is haunted?
In 1899, in the North Yorkshire market town of Thorpe Morton, a tragedy occurred; 59 people died at the market hall whilst celebrating Christmas Eve, many of them children. One hundred years on and the spirits of the deceased are restless still, ‘haunting’ the community, refusing to let them forget.
In 1999, psychic investigators Theo Lawson and Ness Patterson are called in to help, sensing immediately on arrival how weighed down the town is. Quickly they discover there’s no safe haven. The past taints everything.
Hurtling towards the anniversary as well as a new millennium, their aim is to move the spirits on, to cleanse the atmosphere so everyone – the living and the dead – can start again. But the spirits prove resistant and soon Theo and Ness are caught up in battle, fighting against something that knows their deepest fears and can twist them in the most dangerous of ways.
They’ll need all their courage to succeed and the help of a little girl too – a spirit who didn’t die at the hall, who shouldn’t even be there…

mc_logo_5050I thought reading a supernatural thriller is something that suits the cold winter. Well Eve: A Christmas Ghost Story was a nice read though not a great one.I liked reading through this book while having a hot drink in my hands.

The story starts in 1989 with a tragedy strikes on Christmas Eve in town of Thorpe Morton. Then we are back to 1999 when two psychic investigators, Theo & Ness, are asked to investigate the case of this same town. Strange things are happening in the town especially when it’s around Christmas Eve. The town seems to be haunted and the community are afraid even to seek the help of anyone. As Theo & Ness work on this case, they get to know that the town has suffered a tragedy back in 1899 on Christmas Eve. So the town suffers the most each year on Christmas Eve, the anniversary of the tragedy. Now as 1999 is the mark of a new millennium and the 100th anniversary, the worst is expected. Theo & Ness use the best of their expertise to solve this puzzle and move the haunting spirits on.
starting with the pros, the storytelling was nice. The pace was fine and I didn’t get bored. It kept a fun spirit within the actions.
As for the cons …Paranormal activities has been used in so many books before, which means that a book has to give something new when tackling this issue. This wasn’t the case in Eve: A Christmas Ghost Story. Another weakness was that you can expect what happens next which is never a good thing about a thriller.

About Shani Struthers

Born and bred in the sunny seaside town of Brighton, one of the first literary conundrums Shani had to deal with was her own name – Shani can be pronounced in a variety of ways but in this instance it’s Shay-nee not Shar-ney or Shan-ni – although she does indeed know a Shanni – just to confuse matters further! Hobbies include reading and writing – so no surprises there. After graduating from Sussex University with a degree in English and American Literature, Shani became a freelance copywriter. Twenty years later, the day job includes crafting novels too. Writing both contemporary fiction and paranormal mystery, she is the author of The Runaway Year and The Runaway Ex, both published by Omnific Publishing. Her paranormal work is published by Crooked Cat Publishing and includes Jessamine and the bestselling Psychic Surveys Book One: The Haunting of Highdown Hall and Psychic Surveys Book Two: Rise to Me.
